It was while we were "trapped" in the cave at Carlsbad (due to 2 elevators being out of order) that we were talking to this French guy who teaches Spanish in Corpus Christi, TX and his friend who lives in NM. They were telling us about this place near Deming NM where you could go pick up rocks containing semi-precious jewels. We thought that sounded like fun so we changed our route to California to make a stop at Rockhound Park.
