We had planned for Carlsbad to be our first stop, but while driving through Pecos, TX we saw this museum and decided to stop and check it out.

The Saloon, which originally had 2 bedrooms upstairs, was built in 1896 by by R S Johnson, a former Texas Ranger

The 3-story Orient Hotel was added in 1906.
Jeneanne > This is a view of the saloon which has the original furniture. The bartender (I believe) is a reproduction.
Jeneanne > Well they say bartenders are good listeners, and I mean this guy didn't interupt me not even once.
Jeneanne > I tried to get him to laugh, but I guess my jokes went over his head.

Jeneanne > The two plaques on the floor of the saloon show the spots (along with bullet holes) where, in 1896, outlaws Bill Earhart and John Denison were gunned down by local resident Barney Riggs after they threatened him.
Jeneanne > Gentleman Gunfighter, Clay Allison, is buried on the grounds outside the museum. We loved his motto about how he never killed a man who didn't need killing.
